I guess a small report for the "Beaner" would not be too out of order as there were a few representatives there from District VII. Normally I am unable to make this event as it falls on the same weekend as Sig, but as most know by now, Sig was too wet to fly without damaging the field so it was called off-and rightly so.

Due to another event that can be found in another thread, I was not able to make it over for the Speed Limit Combat, Balloon Bust or Racing that were held on Saturday as well as the grand BBQ. I did manage to smuggle me and 3 of my airplanes across the Blue Water Bridge early Sunday morning and found Brad Lapointe's place without any problem. I think I was the second stunt guy there. Bill from Sarnia was there when I arrived. We ended up with a total of 6 contestants for Profile and F2B stunt. Since we were short on judges, we ended up running 2 groups of 3 with one person judging for both groups and one person from each of the groups judging the other for the Profile event. We took the top 2 from each group and flew a final round, 2 attempts at one official. I was lucky and came out on top with Paul Smith behind me and Len Bourel in 3rd.

For the F2B side of things, we started out with the same format, but with the weather looking like it would blow in at any minute and the occasional rumble of thunder in the background, we picked our top 3 out of the 2 groups based on scores. From what I saw, I don't think that there would have been a different outcome had we flown a final. Note to self, don't change routine when flying. It cost me a few points as there are 10 points awarded for starting and launching within 1 minute. One this one, Len came out on top with me in second and Stuntin' Stu Henderson in third.

I hung around for a while to watch Lou Scavonne end up with a third in F2D (I think) and enjoy some sausages. I even managed to help get some of the field equipment down before the rains hit. For those of us that live close enough to the border, this is really a worthwhile trip. Some of the best field grass I have ever seen. Actually, it is the best field grass I have ever seen. Great Job Brad.

John

I have a few photos. Will try to post some. Whoops, I need to skinney 'em down under 50 megatons. Later for this.

The chief & permanet stunt judge was Dave Relf, Dan Birks' uncle, who is fully knowledgible in all things F2B. All score were added up by Lenny's friend, Naiomi Mackley. Incidently, Len instructed and soloed out both Dave and Naiomi on Saturday.

Brad's personal two-circle venue, "The Beanfield" is a great asset to the CL in the area. This year, due to crop rotation to wheat, it's the colour of maise, as in Ann Arbor, not green, like East Lansing.

Almost everyone of Brad's large cadre of Beaners is fully qualified to pick up a control handle, pit box, score sheet, stopwatch, lap counter, or a camera in combat, stunt, and/or racing. Most everybody participated in two or all three catagories. Thus far, only three people are licenced to run the grill.

The first photo is Dave soloing out.

The second is two people who will be flying in the FAI World Championship in Hungary next month and one who will not.

I had a bit trouble getting the site to take two pitchers. Now I'll try for three.

OK, I sort of muddled through that.

The Racing picture is my pilot, Vadim Polack, myself, and 2nd placer and field owner Brad LaPointe.
Leonard teaching Naiomi to fly.
A typo-Fred Tellier Snowbird entered by Dan Birks.

Statistics show that 80% of the people who train at the Beanfield go to the FAI World Championships.
