Hi fellow Control line flyers. Well the 10th annual Fly-In is in the books. A typical for all events I run it rained first thing in the morning and we had intermittent showers till early afternoon. We got a lot of flying in between the showers. This had to be the largest fly-in that we have ever had!!!
Frank Carlisle started things off promptly at 10! Followed by me flying my twin profile Mustang. Jim Morway flew his beautiful stunter and I'm happy to report he didn't manage to wound himself this year mainly because John Paris and myself wouldn't let him near the spinning prop!! I lost track after that as things happened fast and furious!! Jan H's wife Nancy and Franks girlfriend Linda made sure we were well fed!!! Oh, that reminds me I stopped and picked up a dozen donuts on the way in to find someone else had brought 2 dozen!! That was followed by 2 boxes of Apple Fritters and I'm not sure what else!!!!! We had absolutely no thunder or lightning in the area so some flying was done in light rain!
Now for some good news and the bad!!! I've run this thing for 10 years now and am just worn out!!! So now for the good news!! This will continue next year because at least one person has stepped up to replace me!!
One of the interesting things that happened was the visit from a person who I flew with back in the 50's. Some old timers may know him, Ray Baker is his name! He brought with him an airplane that he built back then and was looking for help identifying. It's a flying wing with a straight LE and swept forward TE. The elevator is balanced and attached to the TE. It has an upright engine mount and has a period K&B Greenhead .35 mounted on it??? It's about 300 sq.in with a thin airfoil. (Half Fast size) Oh, It has tip platelets and looks like a Scarenzy design???
